Kiwanis Shoe Drive – Donate shoes & help out others!
January – March 2018
Did you know that Tetanus is a serious cause of death in 3rd world countries? When an expectant mother gets the tetanus in her blood from going barefoot, she passes it on to the baby – who dies an excruciating death within days of being born. One way tetanus can be prevented is by wearing shoes! Here’s a chance to help out the poor and also the youth in our community. Kiwanis of Pratt is conducting a Shoe Collection Drive from January through March. The shoes will be donated to third world countries (Haiti, Honduras, and other nations in Central America and Africa). Kiwanis will receive a small payment for the shoes which will in turn be donated to youth programs (the Teen Center, Pre-school Teachers, Builders Club @ LMS, K-Kids at Skyline and Aktion Club at Arrowhead West). The shoe drive helps impoverished people in two ways. (1) Practical shoes are given to the poor (tennis shoes, flip flops, sandals, hiking boots, etc) and (2) They help those who want a better life start and grow a business in their country by becoming a street Shoe Vendor. A number of dress shoes and new shoes are given to individuals to start a trade. Once their business is growing, they can come back and buy shoes for a small fee. ) IT’S A WIN WIN FOR everyone involved. Our goal is to collect 100 bags of shoes (25 pair per bag) during this period. PLEASE CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS AND DONATE IF YOU ARE ABLE! A box for the shoes will be located in the PRMC cafeteria, schools, the Community Center, the Pratt Rec Department, and in some of the churches. If you have questions or need shoes to be picked up call Stephanie Becker 450-1425 or 672-6725 or another Kiwanis Member.

Winter Freezer Meals
Cost is $100.00 for 10 meals that feed a family of 4-6 people
Skyline Schools Entrepreneurship Class
You will leave with ten freezer meals, ready to go! All groceries and supplies will be provided. Please bring a large cooler, box or large bag to transport the meals home. Meals include: lasagna soup, chicken philly, BBQ pineapple chicken, slow cooker pizza, sweet onion pork chops, sloppy joes, broccoli cheese soup, chicken tacos, chicken gumbo, and sweet & spicy pork roast. Ascension Lutheran Adult Trivia Night!
Saturday, February 3 – 7:00 pm; Doors open at 6:30 pm

$200 entry fee per table of 8, fee includes soda, popcorn and other snacks. Outside food and beverages are welcome and encouraged. There will be prizes for the first place team, best decorated table, bonus questions and raffle drawings! Come dressed in style and wear your hat & gloves! Stroll down Main Street, visit the soda fountain, and have your picture taken in the Withers Studio. Grant Writing Workshop
Thursday, February 22 – 9:30 am to 3:00 pm

Nancy Daniels, Community Vitality Specialist, will be the featured speaker at this event focusing on sources of data for community needs, elements of a great grant proposal, practicing the grant elements and where to find grants.
