“Traced & Terraced”
Meet the Artist Reception – Friday, October 30 at 6:00 pm
This exhibit will feature a new body of prints, drawings and a site specific installation. The artist will create a number of new works specifically for this exhibition. “Having been raised only miles from the museum, I feel a strong affinity and connection to the surrounding places and people. The flat work will address the landscape and agricultural history of the region. Having been raised on a nearby wheat farm, this experience has continued to shape my practice. I intend to use photographs from a recent trip back to KS as a source for multi-media imagery that will be printed via multiple processes, both hand-pulled and digital. My installation will include materials deriving from my family’s farm. The piles of materials surrounding the buildings of our farm acted as a resource for my father, grandfather and great grandfather for the purpose of repairing, building and inventing various tools and objects as needed. I adopt a similar strategy in my own work. I am interested in highlighting this connection to agrarian and artistic practices through this exhibition.” – Jon Swindler

First Friday Lunch and Learn
Featuring Judi Kirk, Friday,
September 4 – 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm
Join us at The Filley as we learn about Judi Kirk! Judi will be discussing the process of what it took to create her two books, ‘Remnants’ and ‘Glimpses’.
“When you find your passion in life, that thing that consumes your thoughts and energy, you never know where it will lead you.I have been on a long, exciting journey since 2013. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think what I would encounter along the way. From concept to fruition the writing of my two books “Remnants” and “Glimpses” was an adventure. I would like to share that trip with you as I move from the first twinkling of an idea, to photography, to journaling, to the making of the books. Who would have thought what you need to know: as in how to put a book together, find a graphic designer and editor, find a printer, and find sellers….are you getting tired yet? The process became my passion and how I loved the hunt! The people I met were amazing, the places I saw were inspiring, and the joy of the hunt was exciting! I will chronicle my adventure for you with pictures (that is my first love after all) and stories I will never forget. See you there!” – Judi Kirk
