“Traced & Terraced”
Meet the Artist Reception – Friday, October 30 at 6:00 pm
This exhibit will feature a new body of prints, drawings and a site specific installation. The artist will create a number of new works specifically for this exhibition. “Having been raised only miles from the museum, I feel a strong affinity and connection to the surrounding places and people. The flat work will address the landscape and agricultural history of the region. Having been raised on a nearby wheat farm, this experience has continued to shape my practice. I intend to use photographs from a recent trip back to KS as a source for multi-media imagery that will be printed via multiple processes, both hand-pulled and digital. My installation will include materials deriving from my family’s farm. The piles of materials surrounding the buildings of our farm acted as a resource for my father, grandfather and great grandfather for the purpose of repairing, building and inventing various tools and objects as needed. I adopt a similar strategy in my own work. I am interested in highlighting this connection to agrarian and artistic practices through this exhibition.” – Jon Swindler

Community Art Exhibit
This CALL FOR ENTRY invitation is open to the public to anyone in our community and surrounding regions. We challenge you to do something artistic while you are at home practicing social distancing – use whatever media or talents are available to you to create!
As long as plans for Pratt County re-opening continue to progress and the climate is safe for individuals to visit us in small numbers with masks and precautions, the Filley Museum will host a week-long come and go public community exhibit in our Lobby (likely without an opening event due to social distancing needs). The week-long exhibit will likely take place around the last week of July or the beginning of August. So we ask that you fill out your entry form now and drop off your artwork starting anytime AFTER July 25th, 2020. The exhibit will take place the week of August 8th through 15th. More details will be announced soon, but the time to create is NOW! All we need to know is who plans to be present! Fill out our short 5 question form below if you intend to participate.
When you drop your artwork at the museum, we will have you make your own handwritten label with Artist name, title, etc.
